Many people contact me to find out if there is a difference in baton length for choral vs instrumental ensembles. This is my suggestion based on my experience. For choral batons I like to still use your forearm length, then subtract an inch. This would be for general choir conducting. However, if it's choir with orchestra with less than 70 performers, then use the forearm length. For that scenario with more than 70 performers, then add an inch. Please keep in mind that the forearm length is the amount of stick that is showing from your pinch point forward. So, your grip, handle, added to the forearm length will determine the actual overall length of the baton. I hope this is helpful.
